Motor Vehicles, Department of
Private companies can process certain transactions with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on-site. This privilege requires a contract with the DMV. Processing occurs through a computer system linked to the DMV.
The permitted transactions include but are not limited to:
- registrations, re-registrations, registration renewals, amended registrations, and duplicate registrations;
- duplicate titles;
- plate surrenders, replacement of lost / stolen plates, and custom plates;
- titles only (for lease buybacks); and
- in-transit permits (if appropriate to business).
